Fighting TB and building houses for orphans
From 14 – 16 August Johan Viljoen of the SACBC AIDS Office visited Elandskop and Estcourt and provided the following report.
At Elandskop I met with the community health workers who are implementing the DFID TB program. We discussed the requirements, the M+E forms and the finances.
I also visited the two OVC houses being built. One is complete and the other one is roof height.
In Estcourt I met with Sr Maureen and the health workers who are implementing the TB program. We sorted out all their problems.
Between 19 and 20 August I visited Pomeroy and saw the first OVC house that is being built with Homeplan funds. Martin, the builder, has negotiated a deal with Corobrik in Dundee, and is building the houses with face bricks for the same price that cement blocks would have cost.
I attended the Board meeting of uMusa woMsinga. We also had discussions with Dr Tony Moll (the CEO of the hospital in Tugela Ferry) about the implementation of a INH Prophylaxis Treatment program for people who are HIV positive but TB negative.
