Catholic Church Embarks on Care for Creation Project

Care for Creation

August 2018

Dear Brother Bishops and Archbishops,

At the recent Plenary in Mariannhill I reported briefly on the work of the Laudato Si’ Sub-Committee in preparing for the celebration of Day of Creation on 01st September and the Novena in preparation for the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, 25 September to 3 October 2018. Together with this letter please find the following:

  • Liturgical texts proposed for 01 September, the Celebration of World day of Creation
  • Homily outlines which can serve as a guide for priests and deacons for the occasion of 01 September
  • Novena texts as revised for this year. Read more….

Please pass these texts on to your priests as well the religious and in your Dioceses and please request your Diocesan Administration to see to it that the text of the Novena is distributed as widely as possible so as to bring everyone on board with the nine days of prayer leading up to the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

The Laudato Si’ Sub-Committee is presently engaged in preparing the programme for reflections for Lent next year and these will be presented to the Administrative Board in November 2018 before being finalised for the Lenten Season next year.

I thank you once again for the reception that this report was given in most recent Plenary. It is my hope that we spread the Good News of Creation as Pope Francis has proclaimed it in his ground-breaking encyclical on “care for our Common Home”.

As always, yours in Christ and Mary Immaculate,

+Edward Risi OMI
