The Love of Christ Ministries, South of JHB, Receives a Car
Theresa Bossert of the SACBC AIDS Office visited the Love of Christ Ministries (TLC) in Eikenhof south of Johannesburg on Wednesday 19 February 2014 and met Pippa Jarvis.
Theresa reports that she “was blown away” by the love and commitment the Jarvis family and staff have to offer for so little in return, giving freely as they have received.
The Love of Christ Ministries was established by the Jarvis family to rescue the tiniest victims of a society in turmoil. Since they rescued their first two little ones in April 1993, they have continued to play a part in changing the destiny of more than 780 babies who have been abandoned or orphaned, in a society plagued by HIV/AIDS, unemployment and high crime levels.
TLC believes that “every child has the right to a loving and responsible family”, and this motivates them to do more in helping children find a home with adoptive parents.
Every baby at TLC is a part of their family, they hold each little one dear and they seek the best for each individual.
The family has grown from five children to almost thirty. The nursery accommodates another thirty five little babies between birth and three years; 15 toddlers and 16 primary school children. They are assisted by a fantastic international team of 16 – 24 volunteer caregivers. They employ a number of staff members to assist with administrative and domestic duties.
TLC is looking to become a self-sustainable community by developing TLC home-grown products, by natural and organic farming that includes the production of vegetables, chickens, eggs, beef, milk, goats’ milk and pigs.
SACBC AIDS Office is happy to assist the programme, with the help of funding from a legacy, in making up the shortfall still needed to purchase a Toyota Avanza to transport the children to their doctors’ appointments and to take to and from school those of school going age.
