National Association for Childcare Workers (NACCW) graduation Ceremony Report: 22 May 2013
Two years ago USAID (PEPFAR) collaborated with the NACCW organization to equip the Orphans and Vulnerable Children Care Wokers of PEPFAR funded projects around South Africa with skills and knowledge to work with children in a professional manner. SACBC AIDS Office had 15 care givers participate in the NACCW training and of the fifteen, thirteen care workers did exceptionally well obtaining the Child and Youth Care Worker qualification. The duration of the training was eighteen months.
On the 22 May 2013, SACBC AIDS Office representative witnessed the graduation of two hundred and sixty one graduates from Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga. Among those thirteen Child and Youth care worker were from SACBC AIDS Office funded projects. The event was held at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg and sponsored by USAID.
The event was attended by different stakeholders including Department of Social Development, Pact South Africa, HWSETA, Don Mattera (a well known South African Poet and Community activist) and one representative from Heart Beat, SACBC and Noah. The event was inspiring and Don Matera spoke some words of encouragement and gratitude to the graduates. Don Matera highlighted the importance of Compassion and encouraged the graduates to embrace it together with the skills acquired in order to bring a change in the communities they are working in. His powerful words left the graduates in a positive frame of mind and believing in themselves and their own abilities.
