Graduation Ceremony
Teboho Mokhothu of Leseding Care Givers, Brits in the Bojanala District sent us this report on the Family Matters Programme from which 95 parents and guardians graduated after a six week course. The programme targets parents and guardians of children entering puberty and is aimed at helping them deal more openly with issues of sexuality and at remaining HIV free.
The day of the graduation went well. Mr. Mpedi Tsotetsi opened the graduations with a prayer and Mr. Matshaba welcomed everyone present at the graduations, including our guests. Entertainment was done by the participants from their respective teams. Mrs. Johannah Motsepe thanked the Facilitators for their great work and encouraged parents to implement all the skills they have learned and said she herself is now able to talk freely about sex and sexuality with her grandchild. Miss Mpho Mokwebo thanked Aurum and the facilitators for the Family Matters Programme, she felt empowered as a single mother after attending all 6 sessions. She is now able to talk confidently about sex and sexuality with her children and her younger siblings. Mme Melita and Ntate Daniel also shared their testimonies. Miss Motsilisi Thuntsa and MR Teboho Mokhothu issued certificates to all the graduates who were present. HIV Counseling and Testing were also provided. Clients did not however test for HIV even though services were available.
Some participants who completed all 6 sessions could not attend the graduations due to illnesses, family issues and work related matters.
