Early Childhood Development Training, Kroonstad OVC Project, July and August 2012
The SACBC AIDS Office collaborated with Realeboga Bakubung Organisation of Thaba Nchu in the Free State in the training of 39 care workers of the Diocese of Kroonstad OVC Project in Early Childhood Development. It is an accredited training consisting of five modules covered over five months, followed by site visit support done by the Bakubung facilitators to see whether the child care workers are putting into practice what they have learnt. Child care workers obtain a level one or foundation phase certificate.
Child care are better equipped to reach out to children aged 0 to 6 years in a professional manner, providing holistic care concerning literacy and child development. In July 2012, 33 care workers began the first module of training in Welkom at the Thabiso Skills Development Centre. The first module focussed on creating and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for babies, toddlers and young children. Learners designed and made dolls and a bean bags for their centres or sub sites.
In August 2012, care workers met at the St Augustine’s Catholic Church in Virginia, Free State for the module two training. This focused on the basic understanding of child development through the different development stages . The child care workers were equipped with skills to promote different kinds of activities needed for helping children develop socially, emotionally and physically.
