Bicycles for Baitlami Ba Sechaba caregivers in Kopela, Klerksdorp Diocese.

On the 28th of May 2012 Kabelo Huma and Nondumiso Jwara went to Klerksdorp to hand over bicycles donated by the Justice and Peace Department  to the AIDS Office for projects doing Home Based Care programmes. The bicycles were ridden from Musina to Durban during COP 17 in November 2011. Baitlami Ba Sechaba, situated in Kopela Klerksdorp, is one of the sites that was chosen to receive two bicycles. The project operates in this rural area and 4 other neighbouring villages, namely Ntwane, Diretsane, Thawane and Witpan. The caregivers have to walk as far as 20km to care for their patients since the transport system is infrequent and not affordable.

On the day of the handing over 3 caregivers,  and the site coordinator were present. The group was happy to have received the bicycles as a donation. Sophy Motaung expressed the site’s appreciation for the  help  for caregivers to do their work with efficiency since the patient s’ homes are scattered. The 7 caregivers will share the bicycles amongst themselves during home visits.

The handing over was appreciated  by the parish priest Fr Jeff Hollander (in the photo) and Bishop Mvemve who saw it as a good gesture from SACBC AIDS Office.
