Pomeroy Houses, Diocese of Dundee

Pomeroy Houses, Diocese of Dundee

From Sr Bongiwe

The project is located in Pomeroy, UMzinyathi District.
The Project is supported by Home Plan, to improve living conditions of the people in Pomeroy and around Msinga.
In the program we have more than 500 children registered

Targets
The project targets destitute, malnourished and AIDS orphans and vulnerable children and their families
The project focuses on the 0 to 18 age group.
The target group covers the most vulnerable children identified by caregivers, some of whom will be in child-headed households, others in grandparent-headed families, and includes primary and secondary or high school children.

M&E (Monitoring and Evaluation) teams do the follow up on the identified situations and conditions reported, and are able to identify the most urgent cases.

Below you can see some photos showing some of the houses which were replaced or added to.

Achievements
In 2016 alone there were 17 houses constructed, 10 completed and 7 under construction.

The situation of the beneficiary families has been made better and they have been given strength to face life with a positive attitude.

Some children have gained confidence and self-esteem; proud to have a decent house. Beneficiaries are very grateful, for the help they have received.

Challenges
The main challenge is that the list is endless.

There is still a desperate situation in terms of houses.

The community at large is aware of the Home Plane project, and therefore we have more people coming to our door for help.
