Families Matter! Graduations, Tsakane, Brakpan, September 2016

Anna Kaura (SACBC) Dr Claire Botha (Aurum, PEPFAR Partner) attended the Families Matter! Graduations at Patrice Motsepe HBC Project.

Once again we heard wonderful testimonies about how FMP has broken communication barriers between adults and children in homes, resulting in good relationships between children and parents. The Facilitators were thanked profusely by the parents, for their boldness in discussing issues most people are not comfortable to talk about in our communities. 78 guardians out of 80 who started the programme graduated, a 97.5% retention.

Dorothy from Life Line, a Counsellor, gave a talk about the importance of knowing one’s HIV status and encouraged everyone to be tested. She also touched on the issue of GBV, and procedures to be followed in case it is suspected that a child is being abused, physically, sexually or otherwise.

The children were given a chance to render their items, they did kofifi and traditional dance. Some guardians also did traditional dance and poetry.

SACBC was thanked for their support and encouragement in recruiting guardians for this program, while Aurum was thanked for providing facilitators.
