Siyabathanda shelter renovations benefit 136 children and their families

Siyabathanda Community Based Organization in the ILembe District Maphumulo Municipality was able to do some shelter renovations benefitting 136 children and their families with funding received through the SACBC AIDS Office.

It is, say Siyabathanda project staff, “a known fact that OVC projects use a system of caregivers in order to do community outreach services. Our caregivers are fully aware of the conditions our beneficiaries live in, e.g. poor housing structures. We had to let them select deserving OVC’s homes, though the total amount of money awarded could not cover all the houses in need of renovations. We however managed to renovate a few of the homes. Not to mention the fact that we are coming from a very heavy storm which destroyed a lot of homes. Many homes are built with mud and this made it very easy for them to be damaged by heavy rains.”
