Spirituality for Caregivers
Fr. M. Makama, Mavis Nxumalo and Sipho Nxumalo facilitated a retreat for 20 caregivers, at Regina Mundi Church, Pigg’s Peak, Diocese of Manzini in June. The retreatants were joined by the resident sisters at the mission during the healing service which was led by Fr. M. Makama.
The main focus of the retreat was the spirituality of caregivers. The caregivers took time to reflect on 2 Thessalonians 2: 16-17 and to share on this Scripture. A translation of Roy Lessin’s prayer for caregivers inspired by this Scripture was then discussed at length. The caregivers were encouraged to say this prayer daily. Mavis and Sipho Nxumalo dealt with qualities of good caregivers. These qualities were listed and discussed enthusiastically. Many good examples of these qualities in action were discussed.
The session which dealt with the qualities of the caregivers was the main highlight for the caregivers. Their enthusiasm during this session said it all. Yes, and the healing service was something they demonstrated a need of, judging by the way many of them requested that it be done more regularly.
