Sithandizingane, Brakpan, Archdiocese of Johannesburg reports :
The children Sithandizingane, Brakpan, Archdiocese of Johannebsurg
participated in the marimba national festival and enjoyed the experience. They were also invited by an engineering company to entertain them for an event. The children received T-shirts and there could be future sponsors and performance invitations.
Another group of children participated in piano classes – theory, which they enjoyed. These classes are a new experience for them and are conducted by a piano student.
The house renovation project is on-going and the contractor will be completing the project soon.
There are two peer education groups, one takes place in the aftercare project and the other one at the outreach station. Each child was asked to give a presentation. This exercise was to measure how much self-confidence each child had in front of other children. Most of the children were confident, but they struggled to prepare the presentation.
For child protection service we educated the children about domestic violence. What it is and why it is happening, and how it will affect them. Some children were asked to share their own personal experiences at home and outside. We are planning to involve social auxiliary workers to assess the families.
We are assisting children with their writing skills through happy box, writing about heroes and what makes them happy. The children really enjoyed the exercise.
We hosted a workshop with caregivers about vulnerability. Three of our care givers are on a learner-ship through National Association for Child Care Workers (NACCW).
