Northern Cape caregivers on retreat, Diocese of Keimoes-Upington
Pastor Tommie Saunders and Mr. Nicolaas April facilitated a retreat for the caregivers of the Diocese AIDS Ministry of the Diocese of kKeimoes-Upington.
The retreat took place on 19 and 20 April 2013 at Old School B&B where the Caregivers slept on Friday night. The main focus of the Retreat was the social well-being of the Caregivers. It started on the Friday evening with a barbeque to make people more relaxed and to let them socialise as they are working in different areas and they only see one other at work meetings and trainings. On Saturday the program was more formal and focused on the spiritual aspects of the work. The facilitators emphasised that the Caregivers are doing a great job in our communities.
The Retreat made the Caregivers realize that in addition to looking after other people, it is also good to take care of their own spiritual and social well-being, to share their own stories and experiences, and also to offload their stress. The Retreat helped to create a sense of belonging and unity amongst Caregivers in the Organization. People enjoyed the place where the Retreat was held as it had a calming atmosphere.
