The SACBC AIDS Office has been able to make a small parkhome available to Inqanawe Project in St Charles Lwanga parish, diocese of Mariannhill. The parish does not have a hall or a place for as an office by Inqanawe and the group has been operating from a deserted shop at KwaMbedula Informal Settlement. Inqanawe volunteers care for the sick, especially bed-ridden clients and care for orphaned and vulnerable children in Klaarwater; KwaMbhedula and Village RDP settlement. At present they have eight caregivers, who take turns cooking for the children and visiting the sick. Imana has been donating soup to the project since 2008. The project also has a small garden, tendered by the children, which supplies the soup kitchen. Their home based care project is currently not sponsored, but they are negotiating with Mzamo clinic for gloves and materials for wound dressing. At present Inqanawe serves 115 home based care clients and 78 orphaned and vulnerable children.
Speaking on behalf of the project, Mrs Sibongile Dlamini says she is very excited and grateful for the donation of the parkhome. They will use one room as an office and the others will be used by caregivers to cook; by children to do homework and have their peer workshops; for caregivers meetings and debriefing sessions. “May God bless you”, she says.
