Child Care Workers Training for OVC care workers

Child Care Workers Training for OVC care workers

In April 2011, fifteen Child Care Workers from SACBC AIDS Office affiliated OVC  projects began an 18 month training under the National Association of Child Care Workers (NACCW). Fourteen modules in  literacy and numeracy made up the  accredited training funded by USAID (PEPFAR),   qualifying participants as certified Child & Youth Care Workers. The NACCW  is based in Cape Town and training was conducted Johannesburg.

The participants were from different dioceses: the Archdiocese of Pretoria (Good Shepherd in Hebron, Kids Care & Support Trust in Bronkhorspruit and Kopano Lerato of Mercy Winterveldt), Archdiocese of Johannesburg (St Joseph Ithuteng Project of Meadowlands), Archdiocese of Bloemfontein (Batho Ba Lerato Project in Thaba Nchu) and finally the Diocese of Kroonstad  (AIDS Management Committee ). Of the fifteen participants trained, a total of thirteen participants were found competent in all their modules.

The training was aimed at equipping the Child Care Workers with extensive skills to improve the quality of life for children and families particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS. This training will enable the Child & Youth Care Workers to support and promote quality services for children at the OVC centres.
